God gave a number of promises to Israel in the form of covenants.  To Abraham he promised land, descendants, a great nation, and that the Hebrew people would be a blessing (cf. Gen. 12-13, 15, and 17).  Through Moses, God vowed to bless Israel if they continued to worship and obey him (cf. Ex. 19-24; 34).
